13th Floor Elevators
Description:
Third in a series of reissues in conjunction with the "60's Garage Disc Guide", supervised by Jimmy Masuko, All Days Records presents the world's first album that intentionally expresses the concept of psychedelic music! The first album by The Thirteenth Floor Elevators was the first album in the world to intentionally express the concept of psychedelics, an expansion of consciousness, and an important legacy of the process by which rock and roll was combined with the expansion of consciousness to form the subculture of the 1960's. Unfortunately, it did not expand outside of Texas at the time. Unfortunately, it did not expand beyond Texas at the time, but it and its album cover remain a standard for psychedelic visions. Rocky Erickson's Janis Joplin-influenced wild shouts, Stacey Sutherland's floaty, reverb-laden guitar, and the sheer weirdness of Tommy Hall's electric-jug excesses took the band beyond mere rock 'n' roll and into the realm of madness and confusion. It is a record of the moment when the door to the thirteenth floor, which had never existed before, was opened with madness and confusion. The second album, "Easter Everywhere," is superior in terms of psychedelic sonic imaging, but this album is by far the best in terms of door-opening immediacy and garage-punk impact.
