Upgrade your vessel's steering with the rugged reliability of a hydraulic linear actuator built for demanding marine environments. This self-contained unit merges essential components into one sealed package, delivering seamless autopilot performance while preserving your mechanical primary steering. Ideal for boaters who prioritize precision and durability on longer passages or in rough seas, it effortlessly switches between manual and automated control.
Picture this: you're at the helm, hand on the wheel for those tactile moments, then engage autopilot for worry-free cruising. The electromagnetic clutch disengages freely for manual overrides, ensuring your primary steering remains responsive. When autopilot kicks in, the bi-directional motor powers smooth extensions and retractions. Smart internal relief valves absorb shocks from rudder impacts or unexpected groundings, safeguarding your investment and keeping you on course.
Crafted to thrive where others falter, this drive unit handles extreme marine challenges. From chilly northern waters to scorching tropical outings, its wide temperature range keeps operations steady. Powerful thrust ensures quick response times, minimizing lag during critical maneuvers. Low back-drive force means minimal interference with your wheel, even in autopilot standby.
| Specification | Detail |
|---|---|
| Maximum intermittent thrust | 675 kg |
| Nominal hard-over time | 9 seconds |
| Operating temperature range | -20°C to +65°C |
| Relief valve pressure | 62 bar |
| Back-drive force (at 12 sec hard-over) | 7 kg |
Mounting is straightforward on most vessels with mechanical steering setups. Secure the cylinder to your tiller or quadrant, ensuring alignment for full stroke. Connect to your 24V system and link up with compatible autopilot processors. Test the clutch engagement and full travel before heading out—many skippers add a bypass valve for extra manual freedom. Pro tip: Regularly inspect seals and oil levels to extend service life, especially after heavy use in choppy conditions.
For mid-to-large boats pushing performance boundaries, this hydraulic ram stands out. Its compact, sealed design eliminates messy external reservoirs and reduces failure points. Responsive hard-over times translate to confident handling in tight quarters or auto-tracking waypoints with pinpoint accuracy. Whether you're coastal hopping or offshore adventuring, it delivers the muscle and finesse your autopilot demands, freeing you to enjoy the journey.
It's optimized for boats with mechanical primary steering, particularly mid-sized to larger vessels needing robust autopilot drive. Handles sailboats and powerboats up to demanding thrust levels.
The solenoid coil engages the clutch for autopilot mode, powering the motor. Disengage it, and the ram frees up completely for manual wheel steering without resistance.
Built-in relief valves at 62 bar prevent overloads from rudder strikes or groundings. IP44 rating shields against water ingress, and tough materials fend off corrosion.
Design pairs seamlessly with select high-end course computers, ensuring plug-and-play integration for reliable performance.
Pre-sealed and factory-filled, it needs minimal upkeep. Check oil levels annually, inspect seals for wear, and test clutch operation seasonally for longevity.
Yes, rated from -20°C to +65°C, making it versatile for global cruising without performance dips.
Efficient 24V DC setup with 100W motor; max current stays manageable at around 11A on lighter duties, preserving battery life.
B & G Hydraulic Ram T2 24V
Model: RAM-T2-24VThe RAM T2 Hydraulic linear actuator combines a cylinder, pump, motor, clutch and reservoir in a pre-filled, sealed unit. Designed to be used on vessels fitted with mechanical primary steering that can be back-driven. When the clutch is disengaged the cylinder is free and moves with the primary steering. To operate the unit in autopilot mode the course computer energizes the clutch solenoid coil and runs the bi-directional motor to extend and retract the ram. Internal relief valves protect the unit and its mountings from rudder strikes, grounding etc.
