Not all documents are eligible for Remote Online Notarization. Eligibility depends on the document and the intended use. All requests require document review in PDF format only before scheduling.

  • Business and corporate documents
  • Consent letters and parental travel letters
  • Certain acknowledgments and jurats (as permitted)
  • Some international-use documents, depending on receiving requirements

  • Commonly Ineligible or Restricted for Remote Online Notarization

     
  • Wills and codicils
  • Certain New York Powers of Attorney, as determined by statute
  • Any document prohibited by statute or not permitted by the receiving authority
  • Documents requiring procedures that cannot be satisfied remotely under New York law
  • If a document is not eligible, alternatives may be discussed where available.
  • Witness Requirements & Credible Witness Considerations

     
  • Witnesses: When witnesses are required, witness rules are confirmed during review and witnesses must be able to meet and successfully complete identity verification as required.
  • Credible witnesses: When a signer does not meet standard identity requirements, credible witnesses may be used as an alternative where permitted under New York law. Credible witnesses must be personally known to the signer and must successfully complete identity verification as required. The use of credible witnesses is reviewed during the document review process.

  • International Use & Acceptance

     
  • Eligibility under New York law does not guarantee acceptance outside New York State or outside the United States. Acceptance depends on the receiving party’s requirements.
  • For international use, additional steps such as an Apostille or authentication may be required. International use is reviewed separately during document review.
