How does Remote Online Notarization work?
Remote Online Notarization allows a New York State–commissioned notary to notarize documents electronically while the signer and notary are in different locations, communicating live through secure technology.
Remotely notarized documents produced through our platform are legally valid and are accepted by many government agencies and filing offices, subject to receiving-party requirements.

What identification is required for traditional (in-person) notarization?
Acceptable identification for traditional, in-person notarization must be government-issued, current, and include a photograph and signature. Examples include:
• State driver’s license or non-driver ID
• U.S. passport
• International passport
• Federal government ID
What identification is required for Remote Online Notarization (RON)?
Remote Online Notarization typically requires:
• A valid government-issued photo ID
• Identity verification through New York State–approved technology (credential analysis and, where applicable, knowledge-based authentication)

If a signer does not meet standard identity verification requirements, credible witnesses may be an available alternative, subject to document type and New York law.

Details: ID Verification & Technical Requirements
What if I do not meet the identity verification requirements?
If you do not meet standard identity verification requirements, credible witnesses may be an alternative option depending on the document type and circumstances. This option must be reviewed and approved in advance.
What are credible witnesses?
Credible witnesses are individuals who personally know the signer and can meet identity verification requirements. When permitted, credible witnesses must participate in the notarization session and complete the required verification steps.
Do you provide witnesses for documents such as wills or powers of attorney?
No. We do not provide witnesses for documents such as wills or powers of attorney.

Please note: Wills and certain powers of attorney (including some New York statutory POAs) may not be eligible for online notarization and must be completed in person. Witnesses must be arranged by the client.
Do I need to be present to have something notarized?
Yes. New York law requires the signer to appear before the notary either in person for traditional notarization, or live via approved technology for Remote Online Notarization.

Documents cannot be notarized if they are signed in advance without proper appearance.
