Not all documents are eligible for New York Remote Online Notarization (RON). Eligibility depends on the document, the required notarial act, New York law, and the intended use. We review unsigned documents in PDF format before scheduling an appointment.
Not sure whether your document qualifies for online notarization? Email your unsigned PDF, intended use, signer details, and any deadline or instructions from the receiving party. We will review eligibility before scheduling.
Commonly Eligible for Remote Online Notarization (Subject to Review)
- Affidavits and sworn statements
- Authorization letters
- Business and corporate documents
- Consent letters and parental travel letters
- Certain documents requiring an acknowledgment or jurat, where permitted
- Some documents intended for international use, depending on receiving-authority requirements
This list is not exhaustive. A document's title alone does not establish eligibility. We review the document, the requested notarial act, the signers, and any receiving-party instructions before confirming whether our online service can be used.
Documents We Cannot Notarize Through Our Online Service
- Wills and codicils
- Trust documents
- Health care proxies
- New York statutory powers of attorney
- Any document or notarial act prohibited by applicable law or requiring procedures that cannot be completed through our online process
These exclusions describe the documents our service does not handle online. Other document types may also be restricted based on their particular requirements. If online notarization is not appropriate, we can discuss available alternatives, without guaranteeing that a particular receiving authority will accept them.
Witness Requirements & Credible Witness Considerations
Document witnesses: Some documents require witnesses to observe or participate in signing. We must review the document's witnessing requirements in advance, including whether they can be satisfied remotely.
Credible witnesses for identity verification: These serve a different purpose. When a signer cannot complete the usual identity-verification process, a credible-witness procedure may be considered if permitted by New York law and supported by our platform. Witness eligibility, the relationship to the signer, and required identity checks must be confirmed before an appointment. A credible-witness option is not automatic.
For more information, see ID Verification & Technical Requirements.
Have a document with witnesses, multiple signers, or unusual instructions? Send the complete unsigned PDF and explain the intended use. We can assess the notarial requirements before arranging a session.
International Use & Acceptance
A signer may be located outside New York or outside the United States, subject to applicable law and successful identity verification. Where the signer is located and where the completed document will be used are separate questions.
A document may qualify for New York RON without being accepted in the format required by a foreign government, court, consulate, or other receiving authority. Additional certification, an apostille or authentication, a particular document format, or translation may be required.
An electronically notarized PDF is not necessarily interchangeable with a printed paper copy for filing or international use. Please provide the receiving authority's instructions before your session.

- Tell us where the document will be used, whether witnesses are required, and any deadline.
- Include instructions from the receiving agency or institution, particularly if an apostille or paper submission is required.
- Wait for document approval and appointment instructions before signing. Signers must complete the required identity-verification steps.
Frequently Asked Questions About RON Document Eligibility
Can I have any document notarized online in New York?
No. Eligibility depends on the document, notarial act, applicable law, and intended use. We review unsigned PDFs before scheduling.
Can you notarize a New York statutory power of attorney, will, trust, or health care proxy online?
No. These documents are not handled through our online notarization service.
Is a credible witness the same as a witness who signs my document?
No. A credible witness may help establish a signer's identity where permitted. A document witness participates in a signing when the document requires it. Each role has different requirements.
Can a business document be notarized remotely?
Many business and corporate documents may be eligible, but we need to review the document and any required signing or filing instructions first.
Will a document notarized online be accepted overseas?
Not automatically. Acceptance depends on the foreign receiving authority and may involve additional authentication, an apostille, or a specific document format.
Start with document review. Email your unsigned PDF, the full legal name and email address of each signer, intended use, destination country if applicable, and any deadline. We will advise on eligibility and the next steps for requesting an appointment.
